About Valerie
As a therapist Valerie brings high levels clinical expertise together with maturity and wide work and life experience.
Valerie works with clients throughout Australia.
Valerie is a Clinical and Health Psychologist who is a member of the Australian Clinical Psychology Association and Australian Psychological Society. She is also approved by the Psychology Board of Australia to provide supervision to psychologists and provisional psychologists.
Clinical Experience
Current
Valerie predominantly works in private practice where she provides psychological treatment for adult clients for a range therapy issues and difficulties
In addition Valerie's works as an executive coach where she combines her business and psychological skills to bring about change. Her experience as an executive in the finance industry and as an executive coach provide a good background for working with clients where work and psychological issues interact.
Previous
Valerie worked at the Albion Street Centre where she saw clients who had HIV and Psychological difficulties. Whilst training Valerie worked with cancer and cardiology patients and in community mental health. Valerie has also provided clinical supervision to people working with disadvantaged groups.
Organisational Psychology
Prior to undertaking the specialist training to become a Clinical Psychologist, Valerie worked in organisational psychology with clients on workplace and career issues.
As a previous executive in the finance industry she combined her practical experience of workplace pressures and issues with her psychological expertise
Other Activities and Experience
Valerie has provided training for corporate and volunteer counselling organisations.
She has undertaken research into the use of antidepressants, suicide and heroin use.
Valerie has a strong interest in the experience of people from different cultural backgrounds and has close contacts with a number of different communities.
Valerie has been involved in a number of volunteer activities relating to physical illness including Cancer, CFS and HIV.
Business experience
Before becoming a psychologist Valerie worked at senior levels for companies such as Macquarie Bank, Lendlease and Optus and in management at AGL. This provided her with personal experience of current workplace demands and pressures.
Valerie left the finance industry to pursue her long term interest in using psychology to effectively work with clients.
Ongoing Education
Valerie believes that it is essential to offer clients the best currently available treatment. She regularly attends professional development seminars, workshops and conferences to update her knowledge. She also regularly discusses practical practice issues with an experienced clinical psychologist.
